While I discovered the dish after a long day of exploring the temples of Kyoto in the cold, the good news is that you don t have to be in Japan to enjoy it. With no large appliances and just a few simple ingredients from the Japanese supermarket, you can make your own nabe from the comfort of your home. Here s how: The recipe This variety of nabe is called yosenabe, which means you can basically add anything you want to your pot. For the sake of ease, I ll describe a simple nabe recipe here that includes chicken, shiitake mushrooms, cabbage, tofu, green onions, and some delicious, thin sliced beef.
